FIELD TRIP - APRIL 22nd - ARNOLD ARBORETUM
AND FRANKLIN PARK ZOO
Our next field trip will be to the Arnold Arboretum, Arborway, Boston, MA on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. We plan to meet at the commuter parking lot on Rt. 124 at 8:30 a.m., if anyone would like to arrange to drive down with a friend. There is free parking along Flora Way, Walter Streets and the Arborway, but parking is limited, so car pooling is strongly encouraged. Admission is free.
The Arnold Arboretum, of Harvard University is a riot of color in April with the spring trees in bloom, including over 200 varieties of Magnolias, Japanese cherry trees, Pussy Willows, Witch Hazels and Forsythia, as well as all the naturalized spring bulbs that growing throughout the grounds. In addition to the blooming trees, there are several stately mature Dawn Redwood trees and other specimen trees throughout the arboretum that also make great photographic subjects. There are also many opportunities for street photography as plein air artists and families explore the arboretum. You may wish to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy there.
After visiting the Arboretum, we will head over to the Franklin Park Zoo, which is a short drive from the arboretum. We will meet at the Giraffe entrance on Pierpont
Rd and meet at the entrance. Zoos are great opportunities to photograph wildlife that would otherwise not see without going on a safari, such as lions, giraffes and Andean condors and other exotic birds.
